Primus is incredibly defined by their incredible funk-metal sound. The band, comprising legendary bassist Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde, and Tim Alexander, has demonstrated that metal can be played in various styles. The band dropped their debut album, Frizzle Fry, in 1990. The album attracted the attention of major labels. Hence, Primus signed with Interscope and released five more outstanding works. In 1993, Primus made their phenomenal breakthrough when their 1993 album, Pork Soda, peaked at number 7 on the Billboard 200. The highly acclaimed effort spawned the hit song “My Name is Mud,” which rose to number 9 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart.
When Primus rose to prominence in the ‘90s, Coheed and Cambria started making waves the following decade. The band made an immediate breakthrough with their debut effort, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, peaking at number 12 on the Top Rock Albums. After their breakout, the band continued to drop highly acclaimed concept albums, all with very lengthy titles but with a brilliant story behind them. In 2010, the band released their highest charting effort, Year of the Black Rainbow, peaking at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top Rock Albums.
